I select two OB 12yo with significant sherry influence and low peat.  Both are great with Chinese food.

Glen Elgin 12yo (43%, OB)

Yellow brown.  Hint of smokiness with some tropical fruit.  Sherry influence for sure.  Then turned out to have some citrus and candy.  Very nice and balance.  Robust palate chocolate, sweet.  Medium body.  Medium finish.  Adding water get more fresh fruit.  Score: 84.  I add one extra point because it is good to go with ice and with Chinese food.  A value and better choice then Macallan.

Highland Park 30yo (48.1%, OB)

This is a very new bottle, not a vintage series.  Should be in the standard range.  Color: Brown.  Citrus fruit, sherry influence obvious.70%up.  Tropical fruit first.  Some Toffee or chocolate feel.  Creaming.  Vanilla, heather, mild and soft body.  Finished long.  Adding water get lot’s citrus fruit.  Seems the sherry part is not good enough, but bourbon part is quite good.  Score: 86.

Auchroisk 1989 (62.8%, Blackadder, Cask#30266, advance sample)

Light Yellow.  Very grassy., nutty, straight.  Some flowerish  nose.  Wild flower.  Salty, sea.  Adding water very nutty, not good.  Score: 82.  This one will not import to Taiwan.  Grassy malt are not so easy to accept.

Three interesting Glen Grant samples in hand.  Head to head and got very interesting result.

Glen Grant 26yo 1975/2001 (43%, Scottish Castles, Cask # 5529, Series 3)

Sample from  Bird, thanks!  Color Brown, very clear.  Legs going down quick.  Sherry influence at the first impression.  Woody.  Lot’s of tropical fruit.  Mellow.  Very lightly peated.  This is very strange as this is the first time I got peat in Glen Grant.  Very meaty and ripe apple.  Palate not so good.  Weak. Not balanced.  Finined mild, bitter, but long.  Some clear woodinees comes out after adding water.   Also taste better.  Score: 82.

Duncan Tayler Blend 35yo 46%
This is definitely one of the best blend whisky I've ever had.  So complex and smooth.  Golden color, very oil.  Nose: Venella, a little bit smokey.  Hint of peat.  Lightly peated for sure.  Creaming, deep and beautiful nose.  Sherry influence for sure.  Dry finish.  Citrus at the end.  This one was said to be blended by Jim McEwan in the eighties and put back to sherry butt and married till now.  Hope it won't priced too high.  Score: 88.

Glen Keith 1971/2005 (50.8%, Duncan Tayler, tasting sample)
Brown, mint, chocolate.  Mellowiish, veary stange nose.  Nut? not sure.  But generally speaking a very nice malt. I heard it's already bottled and will be imported to Taiwan soon. Score: 89.

Lagavulin 1988 (56%, Samaroli, 324b.)

Tomatin 12yo (43%, OB)
This is the award 2004 sample, I think it get too much caramel and too nutty.  I don't like it too much.  I only gave it Score: 78.  Amazing the same as the scoe I gave in the award.

Tomatin 33yo 1967/2000 (53.5%, John Milroy Millennium Selection Sherry Butt)
Taste again.  one point higher than yesterday.  Score: 82.  I can really tell the house style by this two samples.  Actually, except medium body.  Sherry style, I can't really recall any house style I had previously.

Old Pultney 17yo (43%, OB, 2004)
Sample from David, thanks! 2004 new label.  Very few bottles are import to Taiwan.  Yellow Brown color.  Oil, but legs going down quick.  Sweet, clear caramel influence, even just by nosing.  Tropical fruit, nutty.  Not so much sea influence by nosing.  Lightly peated.  thick!  Can feel salty by tasting.  but again, caramel dominant the palate.  Medium body.  very nutty finish.  Not really my style, but not too bad.  Score: 78.

Tomatin 33yo 1967/2000 (53.5%, John Milroy, Sherry Butt)
Sample from Shan, thanks!  Brown color.  very oi.  Beautiful legs.  very deep sherry cask influence.  Black fruit, chocolate.  sweet.  Very thick body.  very complex.  However, it seems a little bit too much wood influence and not that easy to drink.  Robust, hitter.  I'll try it agin tomorrow with the standard 12yo OB, but it seems this one is not my favorate sherry cask.  Score: 81.

Color: Brown. quite unusual as very clear and a little bit yellowish at the rim.  Oil and beautiful legs.  Nose: Astonishing good.  Beautiful  Lot's of chocolate, sherry sweet.  Deep fruity.  Prum?  a little bit smoke? So complex and enjoyable.  Palate: a little bit nutty at the back.  Thin.  Mild.  Finish weak.  Score: 86.

Springbank 15yo 1964/1979 (45.7%, Samaroli, dumpy bottle)
Color: Brown.  Nose: Lot's of fruit along with chocolate.  So lively.  Very beautiful legs.  however, going down quick.  Maltiness along with some organe peels? Almost pefect in nose.  No complain.  Complex with layer.  Wait for a while.   you got some creamin nose coming out. a hint of mint.  than back to maltiness again.  I don't have enough sample to add water as it taste too good that I drink them all in one shot.  Reminds me the Local Barley version and 30yo limited edition.  However, it's just an old 15yo.  Warm taste.  medium body.  Finished long.  Score: 92.
