Tomintoul 10yo (40%, OB)
Golden brown.  Caramel as the first impression.  But not really that bad.  Very grassy, hint of smoke.  Lightly peated.  Medium body.  Medium finish.  Robust.  easy.  Score: 77.

Ardbeg 30yo (40%, OB)

 

Yellow brown.  Peat.  Mellow, pear, a little bit leather.  Rice.  Adding water very nutty.  Some flower.  Finish short.  Score: 84.  lower than first time.

 

Lochside 14yo 1989/2004 (50%, OMC, 331b.)

我真的忘記是誰給我的, 麻煩舉一下手! Light yellow.  Fresh fruit.  Grass.  Nuty. Wood.  Hint of flower.  Getting better as time goes by.  But not my style.  Finished long.  Light body.  Score: 82.  Serge, Olivier and Luc all gave this one higher than 90.  But I checked again, make sure I won’t change my score.

Brown Sherry Cask. Heavily sherried. Should be the Macallan 1981Gran Reserva I asked earlier. I later confirmed it's true. should say thank you to 仕元 again. Not as Strong as 1979 More mild and simple. Lot's of dried fruit. Need to add water to get the detail. I think the 1979 Gran Reserva is better. Score:85.

Talisker 1989/1999 (59.3%, OB, for Friends of Calssic Malt. 7,000b.)
Smoky. quite weak and simple, not even better then normal 10yo. adding water taste better. Score: 83.

Glengoyne 15yo Scottich Cask (43%, OB)
Very simillar like Macallan. smoky, sweet. Too simple. But after taste, quite like Glengoyne. Score: 78.

These cask strength edition are only available in the distilleries.  But it is now also available on excahnge.

Strathisla 15yo 1989/2004 Cask Strength Edition (59.3%, OB, Batch # SI15002)
Golden brown fruity Creaming. fresh fruit. citrus.  with some back grownd creaming feel.  Very interesting.  Socme clear maltiness sweet then flower.  lightly peated. Standard house style, but not good enough.  Score: 84.

Glenmorangie NAS Artisan Cask(46%,OB)
Yellow. light clear.  Slow legs, very flowrish.  Venella.  A little bit fruit.  Robust.  Woddy.  Young.  very balance.  light body.  finish short.  Score: 84.

Tullibardine 1988 (46%, OB, miniature)
Yellow brown.  Nutty Grass.  Mild but robust in month.  Flowrish.  very woody.  Dry finish.  Score: 74.

Bruichladdich Rock NAS (46%, OB, Banyus Finish)
This is an Banyus Cask(Grenache).finish.  Created to go with rocks(ice) for the young generation.  I didn't have ice cube in the shop.  But we use a little bit ice water and yes taste better.  Reminds me 20yo 2en Edition immediately.  Quite sweet ann easy.  Finish long.  Score: 80

Sample from 仕元, Golden, very fruity and flowrish. Orange. Hint of Vanilla. Cherry? Still very typical Macallan. Nice Papate. Finished long. Easy and Straight. Score: 87

Macallan 15yo 1984 (43%, OB)
Sample from Johannes, Brown. Sherry. Sweet. mint toffee. Warm a litle bit caramel hot in throught. Bitter finish. Scorel: 80 Macallan 18yo 1979/1997 Gran Recerva (40%, OB, 700ml bottle)Taste again, getting better each time. This is a good example that some single malt sitll need time to breath. Score: 90.

Sample A:
Yellow. Venella, fruity. creaming, must be Sherry Cask. Sweet. First guess: Speyside, Glenburgie, 18yo 46%, Sherry cask. But could be Springbank. Score: 87.

Sample B:
Light yellow, Grassy. Peaty. Iodine. flowerish, with some tropical fruit. Peat. very littel nut. First Guess: Islay, Bowmore, 10yo, 57%, Bourbon Cask. Score: 83.

Auchentoshan 12yo (40%, OB)

Very few people know that this bottle is actually not common in Europe.  Color: light brown.  Got this sample in Open House.  Nose: Straw, Malty.  Quite nice.  Fruity and hint of nut.  Again, very high standard Auchentoshan.  But I just don’t like the palate.  Quite Oil.   Finished long.  Even more malty feel after adding wate.  Score: 81.

 

 

Serendipity NAS (40%, OB , vatting of Ardbeg and Glen Moray)

Golden yellow.  Very fruity.  Citrus, nutty.  Some sulfer earth feel. Cake?  Very lightly peated.  Even more nutty when tasting.  Seems like about 12yo, maybe 15yo.  Finished dry.  And not bad.  Adding water got orange feel.  And quite nice.  Score:77.  General speaking not bad.  But something I don’t like in it.

 

Golden, clear, quite oil. Very honeyish, very Balvenie. Soft, mild, gentle elegent. Another very nice 25yo Balvenie. I like it. Score: 88.

Bowmore 12yo 1991/2004 (OMC, 50%, 156b.)
Light yellow. Sea, island, not very Bowmore. Clear Malty sweet. robust. simple. Score: 83.

Macallan 24yo 1979/2003 (55.5%, Proveance, Spring)
Yellow. Matly. Toffee. Chocolate. should be sherry cask with some caramel. Score: 82.

Glenlivet 29yo 1975/2004 (53.9%, Signatory, sherry Butt#5720, 432b.)

Brown color.  Clear chocolate, smoky.  Clear fruit.  Quite complex yet acceptable sherry.  finished long.  Score: 88. a very nice sherry Glenlivet.

Brought by Craig, thanks! Brown, sweet and deep. Chocolate, toffee, creaming. Doesn't nose like Bowmore at the first. very lightly. Hint of flower, salty. However, Taste very Bowmore. Very salty finish. Long! Thick body. A vry nice dram. Adding water get some seaweed.

Two very old sherry butt Speyside head to head.  Quite interesting result.

 

 

Carigellachie 33yo 1970 (46%, Murray McDavid, 498b. Mission III)

This is in the Mission III series and dilute to 46%, according to Jim’s tasting note, it was matured in refill sherry butt.  Color: Yellow brown, not that dark to make you think it’s sherry cask matured. Very oil, beautiful legs.  Nose: so nice, venella, candy.  Fruity.  Quite strong in nose, very robust.  You can get some creaming and white chocolate nose to tell it comes from refill sherry cask.  Palate: mild yet lively.  Sea? A little bit salty? Strange.  Short finish, a little bit bitter.  Score: 89.  Almost, 90 really.  I think it will become even better for a few days.
