A good news about Springbank collector, Michael Wigman
Just get the news that the famous Springbank Collector, Michael Wigman has fullfill his collection for the whole set of Local Barley Edition. Very few people know there were totally 50 casks released in the past as Local Barley Editon. Some of them are only limited in certain coutnries. Now with the help with some friendly Taiwanese connoisseurs,he is the first one to complet the collection in the world. Congratulations. Michael.

Malt Maniacs Award 2005 結果揭曉

不能算是酒展的酒展
兩支重點:
Bruichladdich 15yo 2nd edition (46%, OB, Sauternes finish)
Jim always said the 15yo first edition is his favorite OB. Maybe we should buy half dozen? The second edition is sautern finish, Serge said it is from Chateau d’Yquem and is 50%, but I am not so sure. Brown, very deep sweet. Hint of plum. Sweet at the end. Quite Sautern finish. Score: 84. One point less then the WIP sample.

Richard Paterson is in Taiwan
Richard Paterson, the Master of Whyte and MacKay group, is in Taiwan promoting The Dalmore. I had the honor to attend the Master Night. Though not a official tasting, more like a business dinner, people here in Taiwan love him. He is so funny and charming. A great Master!

Three malts for Open house

Springbank 1962 (46%, OB, bottled +/- 1995, Big S label)
This one could be an exclusive bottle for Taiwan. Color: Golden, very oil, very fine and beautiful legs. Nose, very beautiful malty and nutty nose. Mint, then hint citrus. Some rice and mint as well. After a while, some tropical fruit comes out. Palate: Smooth yet powerful. Quite enjoyable. Finish: Malty sweet. Long. Quite a palate killer. Score: 86.

Two bottles for Open House

Balveine 10yo (40%, OB, Cognac Bottle)
This bottling was sold before 1992, when Balvenie change to the current outlook. The “Cognac Bottle” sold quite a lot in France. And was said to the single malt taste like a cognac. Color: golden brown. Quite oil as an 40% one. Thick legs yet going down slow. Nose: very nice citrus but with a hint of chocolate. Very balanced vatting as the first impression. Some light flower nose brings out the honey house style. Then turned orange like. Palate: quite smooth and easy yet still got some power. Medium Body. Medium Finish.. Adding water got more orange feel and a little bit caramel, and also some mint. The orange feel stay in the mouth quite long. A very enjoyable malt! Score:86.

I wish I can have one of this set!

Please have a look at the picture, not the Jim Bean one at the back, but the black leather case in front. It is a special "tasting" pcakage for the Macallan Ambassadar. It is said to have only 20 sets in the world. It comes with 10 nosing samples. One special "medicine" box with peat, barley etc. Onse set of bottles of to let you keep new spirit, different age whiskies. Looks so nice.

Finally finished tasting on the Malt Maniacs awards 2004
To celebrate, I opened this bottle:
Glen Garioch 29yo 1968 (53.7%, OB, Distilled on 27.4.68, Cask#627, Hogshead)
Color: Dark Brown. Heavily sherried. Lots of chocolate, tropical fruit. Not so peated as house style. Seems to be rounded as year goes by. A little bit smoky at the back ground. Very stong and robust, not like an 29yo at all. Finished long. Stong body. Balanced well. Score: 90. Hey! you bottled too early, this one can matured for another 10 years but still not tired.
