Caperdonich 35yo 1968 Mission II (46%, Murray McDavid, 600b.)

Light Yellow, slow legs, thick.  Vanilla, citrus, very fruity.  A little bit woody.  Typical speyside.  Rich, some hint of flower as well.  Malt sweet at the end.  Apparently it was much better when I tasted it from cask last year in Bruichladdich.(not the same cask but should from similar batch.)  But even dilute to 46%, this one still shows strong body and palate.  Finished extremely long.   Adding water get more flower.  Can’t believe a 35yo malt being so strong.  Score: 90.

Cadenhead’s Islay Malt (58.5%, Cadenhead, Living cask from Edinburgh branch, bottled on Jul. 19, 2005)

Yellow brown.  Almost no legs.  Very peaty.  Rich fruity.  Very nutty.  Should be Laguvulin.  Robust in mouse.  Nutty finish.  Strong.  Finished sweet.  Adding water become very nutty and sweet.  Score: 88.

Laphroaig 11yo 1991/2003 (55.4%, SMWS, Cask#29.28, Deep heat)

Golden, very nice and fine legs.  Sea, iodine, peat, sweet.  Deep and rich nose.  Hint of nut along with some tropical fruit.  Unbelievable matured as an 11 yo malt.  Very warming.  Finished long.  Even like a 20yo malt.  Adding water still very nice.  Finished more nutty but not over powered.  Score: 92.

Port Ellen 1977/1999 (52.5%, Scott’s Selection)

Golden brown.  Oil.  Deep, simple, peat, clear.  Fresh fruit, some mint.  Very salty.  Simple and warming.  Salty and sweet.  Man.   Very salty finish.  Sea water.  Score: 89.  My malt.

Ardbeg 30yo 1967/1997 (49.8%, Signatory, Butt#1146, 536b.Dark Oloroso)

Black brown.   Oil.  Lot’s sherry, almost can feel peat.  Raisin, rice.  Peat was hidden at the back.  You have to be very experience to feel.  Medium peat level? Unusual.  Can’t feel it’s an Ardbeg if by blind tasting.  Sherry monster, long finish.  Heavy body.  Quite change my view about sherry monster.  Score: 90.  Complex.
